Asaf and Valeriya met at the NYU Bronfman Center (Hillel) on a Friday night. Valeriya had gone there for their delicious brownies and Asaf was waiting for a friend. They bonded that evening over their mutual love of Battlestar Galactica and reading. Over the next month they continued hanging out on Friday nights and even met for lunch at NYU’s Kosher Café a few times a week. About a month into their friendship, Asaf asked Valeriya out on a date—Valeriya said no, but they continued to remain friends. Valeriya realized her mistake a few months later as she realized that she had started to develop feelings for him. She revealed this to a mutual friend who informed him that he should ask her out again. He did so and this time she said yes. That summer they met twice a week in Grand Central and would spend the evening at Bryant Park. About 3 years later, on April 3rd, Asaf proposed in Bryant Park with a folding top hat a diamond ring- and Valeriya said yes. She was completely taken by surprise.
